Doctoral project

Title

Shortly after its foundation in 934, the monastery of Einsiedeln became important both in a religious and a political sense. However, the musical and cultural influence of the monastery on the Deutsche Reich in the 11th and 12th century has been neglected from the research. In the PhD project this influence will be in the centre of the research. The question is what kind of influence Einsiedeln had and how it used it in other monastery in that time. The scriptorium of the monastery of Einsiedeln developed its own style of calligraphy and illumination. The impact of this scriptorium as well as the cultural-musical exchange with other monasteries of ducal Swabia has not yet been the subject of scientifically researches. This will be the object of the present project.
